Loneliness and the Living World
A reflection on loneliness, ecological disconnection and the human need for relationship with the living world. Drawing on an experience tree planting in clear-cut forests in northern British Columbia, this reflection explores how separation from nature can create a profound sense of absence — and why reconnecting with the living world can help restore a sense of belonging.
The Illusion of Separateness
A reflection on Albert Einstein’s idea of the “optical delusion” of separateness, and what it means to reconsider our relationship with nature, the living world and each other.
From water and air to food and breath, this reflection explores the ways life continuously moves through us — and why the idea that we are separate from nature may be one of our deepest misunderstandings.
Why I’m Sharing This Now
The world feels increasingly noisy, anxious and disconnected. So much of what we encounter online seems designed to keep us overstimulated, reactive and unsettled.
Over the past few years, I’ve found myself thinking more and more about our relationship with nature, with beauty, with community, and with each other.
And I’ve realised how important it is to create spaces for calm reflection and deeper conversation.
Urban Wild is a space for readings and reflections on nature, landscape and the human experience. I’ll be sharing passages from my book, along with thoughts and observations from my own life and work.
My hope is simply that these reflections offer a small pause from the noise — and perhaps a moment to reconnect with something quieter, deeper and more human.
Anyway, thank you for being here.
